Group Surety Head of Risk Underwriting F/M

The role
Responsible for steering and monitoring global surety risk portfolio, including all transaction related workflows at group level, and adherence to our underwriting rules (ASU and Surety rules). Oversees Risk and Commercial Underwriting under new hybrid structure, Claims, SRU, Legal, Sanctions/Embargo & Compliance and ESG processes. Acts as proxy/backup for the Global Head of Surety.
Future challenges
Deliver sustainable and profitable growth of our portfolio over economic cycles. Adapting oour commerical strike zone for inflow of new business in a balanced way to achieve both our growth and profitability targets. Avoiding severity claims that could put our loss ratio budget at risk.
Main tasks
- Defines and maintains the Underwriting Rules, Standards and the Surety Handbook
- Periodically defines and adjusts the Commercial Strike Zone for Surety Regions & BUs in close alignment with TCI counterparts
- Channels BU submissions to Group credit comittees if approval is required
- Challanges quality of BU underwriting in line with Global UW Framework
- Helps to cascade the Global UW Framework to Surety BUs and function as knowledge center for questions
- Supports community building in Surety Underwriting
- Steers Regional Heads of Surety UW via dotted line
- Performs portfolio management, Underwriting File Reviews and ascertain adherence to Commercial Strike Zone
- Represents, presents and votes (when applicable) in various committees: Group CC, GRCC, SCRUM, (Pre)LRC
- Stands in for Global Head of Surety when absent (proxy, deputy role, potential successor)
- Is leading representative from Surety side on SRU cases.
- Liaises with SRU community, designs/executes Surety SRU strategy and reports out on Watchlist/SRU cases
- Is involved in setting Surety reserves (prepare submissions and liaise with key functions)
- Leads a team that represents other responsibilities: Legal, Claims, ESG, Sanctions/Embargo & Compliance
Profile
- Master's degree of education or equivalent (preferably business based)
- 10-15 years experience in risk management, business analysis and relationship management, with a strong focus in Surety and/or Banking products
- Experience in analysis of financial, economic and other information to assess risks
- Proven cross-cultural communication skills and international experience
- Strong communication skills and good relationship builder
- Capability to influence others and present well
- Hands-on mentality, result driven and proven customer centric behaviours, strong internal network
- Proficient in English and preferably more language(s)
