Senior Director, Drug Discovery – Small Molecules (Inflammatory Diseases) Paris, France Full-time | PermanentWe are looking for a Senior Director of Drug Discovery to lead small-molecule discovery programmes targeting inflammatory and immune-mediated diseases. This role carries end-to-end responsibility for the scientific direction and delivery of multiple discovery projects, from target selection through preclinical candidate nomination.You will provide strategic and hands-on leadership across biology, medicinal chemistry and preclinical sciences, ensuring robust, mechanism-driven decision making and strong translational relevance. This is a key leadership position within a growing research organization, with significant influence over portfolio direction and discovery strategy.Key ResponsibilitiesDefine and execute small-molecule drug discovery strategy in inflammatory and immune-mediated disease areasLead multidisciplinary project teams across target biology, medicinal chemistry, DMPK, safety and pharmacologyOversee hit identification, hit-to-lead and lead optimization activities through to candidate selectionDrive structure–activity relationship (SAR) strategy and data-driven optimization in close partnership with medicinal chemistryEnsure strong alignment between target biology, pharmacology and human disease relevanceSet scientific standards, project milestones and decision criteria across the discovery portfolioContribute to portfolio governance, project prioritization and long-term pipeline planningRepresent discovery programmes internally and with external partners or collaboratorsProfilePhD in medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, pharmacology, immunology or a related disciplineSignificant experience leading small-molecule drug discovery programmes in inflammation, immunology or autoimmune diseaseDemonstrated track record of advancing compounds to preclinical candidate stageDeep understanding of SAR, ADME/DMPK and mechanism-based pharmacologyExperience building, leading and mentoring senior-level scientists and project leadersStrong scientific judgement combined with pragmatic, delivery-focused leadershipExcellent communication skills and comfort operating at senior leadership levelWhy JoinSenior leadership role with clear ownership of small-molecule discovery strategyOpportunity to shape a differentiated inflammatory disease pipelineHigh-impact position in a science-driven, collaborative Paris-based environmentCompetitive compensation and long-term career progression Applications and confidential discussions are welcomed.
