Job Overview:
We are looking for a highly autonomous, senior Head of Risk & Internal Control to oversee the risk management, internal control, and fraud risk frameworks for our France and wider European operations.
As a senior individual contributor, you will provide independent oversight and constructive challenge to the business, ensuring that key regional risks are identified, controlled, and monitored. This role acts as a trusted advisor to senior management, the Management Committee, and the Supervisory Board on the company’s risk profile and relevant regulatory obligations. Note: This is a hands-on execution and oversight role; you will be responsible for both high-level strategy and the day-to-day execution of the control frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
• Framework & Policy Design: Design, implement, and continuously enhance the Institution’s risk management including fraud risk, and internal control systems. Draft and update local procedures ensuring full compliance with ACPR and European payment service regulations.
• Control Execution: Own and formalize second-level controls, independently testing the effectiveness of first-level operational controls.
• Governance & Reporting: Actively participate in the local Risk and Management Committees. Present material risk findings, evaluate the outcomes of permanent controls, and provide independent, proactive recommendations to the Supervisory Board and Group leadership.
• Fraud Risk Partnership: Collaborate closely with the Group Fraud Risk Director to strengthen fraud prevention, detection, incident escalation, and root-cause analysis for the EU region.
• Cross-Functional Advisory: Provide continuous risk guidance to local Business, Operations, and IT teams, helping them understand their control responsibilities and remediate gaps.
• Regulatory & External Interface: Work with MLRO to serve as the primary point of contact for external stakeholders, including the regulator and law enforcement, external auditors. Ensure timely and accurate regulatory risk reporting.
• Regulatory Watch: Vigilantly monitor legislative changes at the French, European, and international levels, proactively adjusting internal frameworks to match shifting requirements.
• MLRO Continuity (Ad-hoc): While a dedicated MLRO handles daily AML/CFT operations, you may be called upon to act as a strategic backup and support regional financial crime initiatives if you possess the relevant background.
Qualifications:
•
Education:
Master’s degree (Bac +5) in Law, Business, or Finance, with a specialization in Banking Law, Compliance, or Internal Control.
•
Experience:
7+ years of proven track record in risk management, internal control, or internal audit within a regulated financial institution (Payment Institution, E-Money Institution, or Bank).
• Execution Mindset: Highly comfortable working as a senior individual contributor. You must possess the autonomy to drive regional strategy while remaining fully hands-on in executing daily controls and drafting documentation.
• Regulatory Expertise: Deep, practical knowledge of French and European banking or payment legislation, ACPR expectations, and internal control frameworks.
•
Skills:
Exceptional analytical capabilities, robust communication skills for board-level reporting, and fluent proficiency in both French and English.
• Bonus Asset: Prior experience or certifications in Anti-Money Laundering (AML/CFT) or acting as a designated MLRO/RCCI backup is highly valued.
