The Business Development Manager is responsible for the commercial development and growth of the OEM and Industrial Enzyme Supply business across assigned EMEA markets, with a particular focus on opportunities in molecular diagnostics, genetics, oncology, precision medicine and Laboratory Developed Tests (LDTs).
The role combines business development, strategic account management, complex B2B sales and market development. The BDM will identify and qualify new opportunities, manage long sales cycles involving multiple stakeholders, develop commercial strategies and negotiate and close business agreements.
The position requires a strong combination of scientific understanding, commercial acumen and relationship-building skills, together with the ability to engage effectively with technical experts, procurement teams, senior decision-makers and other stakeholders within industrial and life-science organizations.
The BDM will work closely with internal teams to develop customer solutions, execute commercial strategies and maximize business opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Business Development & Sales Growth
- Drive revenue growth by identifying, developing and closing new business opportunities within OEM and Industrial Enzyme Supply.
- Develop and execute strategic business plans to achieve short- and long-term commercial objectives across assigned EMEA markets.
- Identify, qualify and progress complex opportunities through the sales cycle, from initial engagement to contract negotiation and closure.
- Manage relationships with existing and prospective industrial customers and develop opportunities to expand the customer portfolio.
- Promote Takara Bio products and enzyme solutions according to customers’ specific applications and technical requirements.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key decision-makers, technical stakeholders, procurement and senior management within customer organizations.
- Strategic Account & Opportunity Management
- Manage strategic customer relationships and opportunities, ensuring effective development and follow-up throughout the sales cycle.
- Build strong networks with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and other influential stakeholders in the relevant markets.
- Lead commercial discussions and negotiations with industrial customers, including complex, multi-stakeholder opportunities.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date customer and opportunity information in Salesforce CRM.
- Provide reliable monthly sales forecasts and regularly prepare and present opportunity reviews to the management team.
- Market Development & Competitive Intelligence
- Monitor market developments, customer needs, industry trends and competitor activities within OEM and industrial enzyme markets.
- Identify new market segments, applications and business opportunities, particularly in molecular diagnostics, genetics, oncology, precision medicine and LDTs.
- Map key players and provide market and competitive insights to support commercial and product strategy.
- Identify and participate in key industry conferences, exhibitions and customer events to develop the business and strengthen Takara Bio’s market presence.
- Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Marketing and Product Strategy to develop and execute commercial strategies and customer initiatives.
- Collaborate with Technical Support and other internal teams to develop appropriate solutions for customer applications.
- Work with the global Business Development organization and relevant Takara Bio teams on strategic opportunities and sales-related initiatives.
Candidate Profile
- Master’s degree or PhD (preferred) in Life Sciences, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or a related scientific discipline.
- 3–5 years of experience in sales and business development within the life-science, biotechnology, diagnostics or related industry.
- Proven track record of developing and closing complex B2B business opportunities, including long sales cycles and multiple stakeholders.
- Experience negotiating commercial agreements and contracts with industrial customers.
- Experience in molecular diagnostics, genetics, oncology, precision medicine and/or Laboratory Developed Tests (LDTs).
- Strong understanding of life-science products, technologies and customer applications, with the ability to engage confidently with technical and commercial stakeholders.
- Experience in IVD and a good understanding of the applicable regulatory environment is an advantage.
- Knowledge of NGS is a plus, particularly in relation to molecular diagnostics and precision medicine applications.
