ENGIE is committed to establishing itself as a frontrunner in 1G biomethane across Europe, aiming for a significant expansion to achieve a production capacity of 10 TWh/y by 2030.

Our projects span various European countries, including the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Poland, and Italy, with interest in Spain, Portugal, and Romania. Our strategy encompasses both greenfield developments and mergers & acquisitions to facilitate the injection of biomethane into the gas grid or the production of bioLNG.

Role Overview

The Projects HSE Manager will report functionally to the Head of HSE for Renewable Gases Europe and operationally to the Head of Project Management.

Management System Responsibilities:

  • Develop, update, and disseminate HSE processes, procedures, and templates for project execution in alignment with ENGIE's Health and Safety Policy and Group Standards.
  • Implement RGE HSE processes and procedures in project execution activities.
  • Assist in defining the HSE strategy and structuring assumptions during the pre-construction phase.
  • Formulate specific instructions for operations that involve significant risks.
  • Create and support the implementation of Project/Site specific HSE documentation.

Stakeholder Engagement and Training:

  • Act as the ENGIE One Safety Culture referent, providing coaching to Site Managers, Execution Project Managers, and other relevant roles regarding the EOSC program.
  • Engage in HSE community meetings within ENGIE and the Biomethane sector.
  • Foster positive relationships with internal team members and contractor representatives.
  • Support contractors and internal teams in understanding and applying HSE processes and tools.
  • Develop training materials and conduct formal training sessions and assessments.

Compliance and Control:

  • Ensure systems are in place to monitor compliance and identify deviations (e.g., site access control, verification of tools and lifting devices).
  • Review HSE documentation from suppliers and contractors to ensure adherence to regulations and ENGIE standards.
  • In case of incidents, take initiative to analyze causes and help formulate action plans.
  • Conduct internal and external audits, ensuring closure of non-conformances.

Reporting Duties:

  • Establish follow-up registers and implement KPI dashboards for HSE monitoring.
  • Meet reporting requirements and deadlines, coordinating efforts and consolidating data as necessary.
  • Leverage project feedback to enhance HSE practices.

Team Leadership:

  • Recruit Project HSE Advisors in line with the growth of the execution team.
  • Lead and manage the Projects HSE team effectively.
  • Allocate HSE resources to project teams while maintaining line management and performance accountability.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Possess a recognized health and safety qualification (e.g., NEBOSH Level 6, CSP, NVQ Level 6).
  • Have a minimum of 5 years' experience in an HSE role within industrial projects (bioenergy, energy, chemicals, water/waste treatment) in an EPC or contractor setting, preferably on an international scale.
  • Demonstrate extensive experience in construction sites, developing and implementing HSE processes and procedures.
  • Exhibit strong technical knowledge of Health and Safety for construction projects, including risk assessment and auditing, with an advantage in environmental management systems.

Language Proficiency:

  • Fluency in English, with the ability to collaborate with international teams.
  • Knowledge of French is advantageous.
