Post-doctoral Researcher in Immersive Audio Technology

The Acoustic and Cognitive Spaces team at IRCAM is seeking a post-doctoral researcher in immersive audio technology to contribute to the development of novel concepts for producing and disseminating audio-augmented live performances.
Project Overview:
The CONTINUUM project aims to establish a continuous experience bridging real and virtual soundscapes, connecting artists and audiences, and merging technological innovation with cultural production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Optimization of a 3D hybrid reverberation model, combining convolution with directional impulse responses (DRIR) and feedback delay networks (FDN).
- Extension of automatic estimation algorithms for FDN control parameters to simulate a DRIR.
- Development and conduct of perceptual experiments in virtual and augmented reality environments (VR/AR).
- Participation in the integration of the hybrid reverberation module into real-time spatialization environments Spat~ and Panoramix.
- Contribution to the creation of immersive sound examples.
Required Experience and Skills:
- The candidate must hold a doctoral degree with a strong component in 3D audio.
- Excellent knowledge of (space-time-frequency) audio signal processing.
- Very good understanding of room acoustics.
- Strong experience in multi-channel audio practices (HOA, etc.).
- Proficient in programming languages such as Matlab, Python, and Max.
- Good experience and methodology in critical listening.
- Excellent skills in scientific communication, both written and oral.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Capacity to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines (deliverables, conferences, demonstrations).
