Corporate Banking France stands as a significant player in the commercial banking sector within HSBC Continental Europe, serving over 3,500 midmarket, large corporate, and international subsidiary clients. The division has recently undergone substantial transformation to establish itself as France's premier International Corporate Bank.
This transformation occurs amidst increased geopolitical and economic challenges, necessitating vigilant engagement and proactive communication with our clients regarding the various risks they encounter in their operations, supply chains, and business models.
Moreover, the current landscape presents growth opportunities as we assist our clients in their international expansion and transition towards sustainability.
In this context, the role of the Deputy Head of Risk Oversight is strategically vital, providing support to the Head of Risk Oversight in overseeing all financial and non-financial risks ('NFR') associated with Corporate Banking France.
In this position, you will:
- Contribute to strategic initiatives aimed at executing the objectives of CMB France and integrating the future operational model in the region; collaborate closely with the Head of Wholesale COO Continental Europe and the Head of Wholesale Credit Risk Continental Europe to enhance and streamline credit processes;
- Assist the Head of Risk Oversight in fostering and instilling a proactive culture of credit and NFR risk management within Corporate Banking;
- Acquire and apply the necessary skills and knowledge to identify, anticipate, and manage emerging risks, while gaining insights into new technologies related to the energy transition;
- Support the Head of Risk Oversight in managing the risks associated with the Corporate Banking France portfolio, which includes credit risk, transition risk, operational risks, and other non-financial risks, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of risk management;
- Guarantee compliance with all relevant policies and guidelines, implementing effective risk mitigation strategies and monitoring pertinent credit KPIs;
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with HBCE Credit & Risk teams to align practices, risk appetite, and process enhancements; collaborate closely with the Corporate Banking Head of Sustainability, Chief Commercial Officer, and coverage bankers to develop transition risk analyses for our clients; work efficiently with other risk stewards and Wholesale COO;
- Support the learning and development initiatives of the Risk Oversight team; share case studies and lessons learned to raise awareness of emerging risks and enhance credit quality and NFR management;
- Collaborate closely with SCU in managing distressed debt and advisory situations;
- Lead a team of risk directors and managers, coordinating the Risk Oversight function of the bank;
- Assist the Head of Risk Oversight in governance and management information activities, representing the team in governance forums and with relevant stakeholders;
- Support the development and implementation of essential credit and risk management tools;
- As designated by the Head of Risk Oversight, take ownership of Corporate Permanent Controls (CMA), SOX controls, CAC HBCE controls, and France Corporate BCP, as well as managing audit risks and associated remediation plans.
