Position Overview:
Newrest is seeking a Culinary Specialist responsible for the preparation and cooking of meals for a prominent airline at a major airport. This role involves working with a globally recognized organization.
Compensation: This position is compensated on a bi-weekly basis. Pay level I starts at $16.00 per hour.
Work Schedule: Must be flexible to work any shift based on operational needs, including overnight shifts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the required menus.
- Follow the preparation list created by chefs to organize daily tasks.
- Manage the preparation, cooking, cleanup, and organization of the kitchen area.
- Prepare a variety of dishes including meats, fish, pastas, and garnishes, adhering closely to recipes.
- Utilize various cooking methods such as roasting, frying, steaming, grilling, and baking as required.
- Handle food preparation tasks including cleaning, peeling, chopping, and measuring ingredients.
- Create sauces and dressings according to established standards.
- Ensure adequate supplies are available for daily operations.
- Maintain accurate food production records and ensure all kitchen equipment is functional.
- Prepare and garnish items for other departments as needed.
- Maintain portion control and forecast production needs.
- Adhere to proper grooming and hygiene practices while using safety equipment.
- Organize products in cooling areas and ensure kitchen security.
- Communicate effectively with kitchen staff and other departments.
- Comply with all company service standards and health & safety regulations.
- Assist in ensuring all kitchen areas are ready for service.
- Responsible for sanitation and post-service setup.
- Report any maintenance needs or unsafe conditions to supervisors.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Evaluate prepared food for quality and taste.
- Monitor food temperatures to ensure safety standards are met during preparation and service.
Qualifications:
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Familiarity with HACCP principles is a plus (training will be provided).
- Minimum of 1 year experience in a similar role within a restaurant or catering environment.
- Ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced setting.
- Willingness to work weekends as required.
