With a strong presence in the market, Descartes has secured a leading position in parametric insurance for weather and climate-related risks. Our innovative approach utilizes machine learning, real-time monitoring from satellite imagery, and IoT to provide unparalleled risk assessment capabilities.
As a result of our consistent growth, we are expanding our Data, Software, and DevOps team to support the development of our scientific engine modeling climate phenomena. We are seeking a skilled Data Engineer to join our team and contribute to the creation, improvement, and maintenance of data pipelines used to train our climate risk assessment models.About the Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, setting up, and maintaining data pipelines and associated datalakes, connections to external and internal APIs, CI/CD and release pipelines, and notification tools to inform the team of the status of operations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and implementing data pipelines and associated datalakes
- Connecting to external and internal APIs
- Implementing CI/CD and release pipelines
- Setting up notification tools
- Proposing and setting up data storage, data processing, and data visualizing tools
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Python object-oriented programming, experience with Docker, and production experience with a cloud provider (GCP, AWS, or Azure). Excellent communication skills, both formal and informal, in English and French are essential. Additionally, the candidate should be well-versed in Agile and have a strong desire to learn and contribute to a rigorous data engineering culture.
