COMMERCIAL COUNSEL POSITION

Prestige & Consumer Beauty Sector

Joining Coty as a Commercial Counsel presents an exceptional opportunity to deliver daily legal support to our Luxury and Consumer Beauty brands. You will engage with legal issues related to the creation, promotion, and distribution of our cosmetic, fragrance, and skincare offerings, while also advising the Coty leadership team on a variety of commercial and regulatory challenges.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

In your role as Commercial Counsel, you will collaborate closely with marketing and commercial teams across Europe, Africa, and Asia.

This position necessitates teamwork with legal professionals across various functions globally, as well as cross-departmental collaboration (e.g., R&D, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, Marketing, Corporate Affairs, Procurement, and Finance) to provide legal counsel on diverse matters, including marketing strategies, sales, regulatory interactions, and litigation oversight.

Your primary focus will include:

Acting as a strategic and solutions-oriented partner to the marketing and sales teams for a range of brands, both licensed and owned by Coty. Engaging in legal tasks such as drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of contracts, including distribution, retail, travel retail agreements, talent agreements (models, photographers, directors, etc.), sponsorships, promotions, influencer partnerships, music rights, agency agreements, e-commerce, licensing, and procurement contracts, alongside reviewing marketing campaigns and promotional materials. Offering EU regulatory guidance, particularly regarding French ARPP, ASA in the UK, and claims substantiation related to marketing claims and product regulations, while overseeing litigation matters. Staying updated on legal developments in these areas and participating in relevant training sessions is essential. Conducting training sessions for internal teams on legal topics, including pricing practices, compliance inspections, claims substantiation (especially concerning environmental claims), and Coty’s internal policies regarding AI development. Delivering high-quality legal advice and support promptly to various business and operational colleagues on matters including marketing, regulatory compliance, claims substantiation, advertising, litigation, competition law, and digital strategies. Managing relationships with external legal advisors on various issues, including risk assessments, regulatory updates, and litigation, while fulfilling other departmental responsibilities as required.

This role reports to a Legal Commercial Counsel, and you will collaborate closely with several departments, including R&D, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, Marketing, Corporate Affairs, Procurement, and Finance. Have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in commercial law at a global law firm, ideally within the luxury, cosmetics, pharmaceutical, or consumer goods sectors, either in private practice or as an in-house counsel. Exhibit exceptional written and verbal communication skills in both French and English. Are a collaborative team player, adaptable, flexible, and responsive to feedback and change. You approach your work with passion and enthusiasm. Proactively seek improvements, acting as a solution provider and problem solver, while escalating issues before they escalate into problems. You think strategically and can analyze complex legal and policy issues from a commercial viewpoint. Maintain a high level of professionalism and integrity, taking responsibility for the quality of all deliverables and actively pursuing opportunities for learning and skill development. Demonstrate resilience and multitasking abilities, managing multiple matters simultaneously, often in challenging situations that require urgent attention, while working independently and with cross-functional resources. Are highly responsive, possessing a sense of urgency to deliver timely advice and provide real-time feedback.
