Customs Brokerage Manager

The Customs Brokerage Manager will be responsible for developing and managing the customs product in the marketplace, focusing on operations, finances, sales, people, systems, and culture, while adhering to the company's policy, procedures, and business code of conduct.
Key Responsibilities:- Train, motivate, challenge, and mentor other employees to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
- Conduct annual reviews for the employee retention program to ensure alignment with company and job expectations.
- Create personal development plans with each employee, setting clear goals and objectives, and providing regular feedback and coaching.
- Identify, develop, and mentor a high-performing team member to ensure succession planning and knowledge transfer.
- Ensure all staff and positions have job descriptions, clear expectations, and are working with structured development plans.
- Conduct regular interviews with potential new personnel to ensure they meet the company's standards and requirements.
- Review department goals and business plans periodically with staff to ensure buy-in and accountability.
- Ensure all classification instructions for all shipments for all customers are accurate and up-to-date.
- Verify that all Customs Authorizations are valid, including Transit guarantees, customer IPR/OPR/Warehousing authorizations.
- Monitor duty deferment usage and levels to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Monitor license/visa applications to ensure timely processing and compliance.
- Ensure all documentation is present for archiving purposes, including customs clearance documents and other relevant records.
- Meet with local customs to discuss performance, delays, red-channels, customs developments, and plans to adapt to country-specific requirements.
- Maintain regular communication with customers to ensure their needs are met and expectations are exceeded.
- Ensure all new business is transitioned correctly, including customs clearance and other relevant processes.
- Report all calls, sales, and retention activities in the CRM system to track performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Issue customs proposals to customers, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Follow up on customs guarantees for various operations to ensure timely payment and compliance.
- Follow up on refunds with customs authorities to ensure timely processing and compliance.
- Ensure every account has a credit limit and check for credit extension when needed.
- Review department P&L to identify areas for cost reduction and process improvement.
- Promote compliance by diligently following all company policies and regulations, and being a role model of integrity and pride for all employees.
- Proactively communicate with the team to ensure continuous awareness and understanding of policies and regulations.
- Maintain a positive relationship with the Trade Compliance Manager and support all compliance efforts and training.
- Proactively promote the company's 10 cultural attributes: Appearance, Attitude, Confidence, Curiosity, Excellence, Integrity, Pride, Resolute, Sense of Humor, and Visionary.
- Promote productivity tools, such as edoc and edoc treeview, customs database, process management, and customs system.
- Be open to implementing new system changes and enhancements with your team.
- Audit files in accordance with AEO.
- Manage the customs system to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Send client report requests through the available database (expo request, expo reporting).
- Set the tone of this environment within your team.
Knowledge:
- Expeditors company policies and procedures knowledge.
- A good understanding of Expeditors' products, services, and systems.
- Strong market and competition knowledge.
- Good knowledge of the customs brokerage process and system essential.
- Good knowledge of customs legislation, especially with regards to classification, valuation, and origin.
- Understanding of ocean, transcon, and air documentation processes.
- Knowledge of air, road, and ocean transport.
- Good knowledge of incoterms.
- Hazardous Materials certification (preferred).
- Well-rounded knowledge of the customs tariff and customs system.
- Working knowledge and experience of the customs regulations.

Education and Experience:
Minimum 3-5 years of Customs Broker's experience including a minimum of 1-2 years in a management level.
