Job Description

As a Customs Brokerage Manager at Expeditors, you will be responsible for developing and managing the customs product in the marketplace through a focus on operations, finances, sales, people, systems, and culture. You will ensure adherence to the company's policy, procedures, and business code of conduct.

Key Responsibilities:
  • People:
    • Develop and implement training programs to enhance employee skills and knowledge.
    • Conduct regular performance reviews and create personal development plans for employees.
    • Identify and develop high-potential employees and ensure they have clear career paths.
    • Ensure all staff have job descriptions, clear expectations, and structured development plans.
    • Implement a new hire development program to ensure new employees are properly onboarded.
    • Conduct regular interviews with potential new personnel to ensure the right fit for the company.
    • Review department goals and business plans with staff to ensure buy-in and accountability.
  • Operations:
    • Ensure all customs duties and VAT are accurately billed and accounted for.
    • Develop and implement customs classification instructions for all shipments for all customers.
    • Ensure all customs authorizations are valid and up-to-date.
    • Monitor undischarged transit forms and duty deferment usage.
    • Monitor license and visa applications and ensure compliance with regulations.
    • Ensure all documentation is properly archived and easily accessible.
    • Meet with local customs officials to discuss performance, delays, and customs developments.
  • Customer:
    • Develop and implement a customer retention and sales strategy.
    • Ensure all new business is properly transitioned and accounted for.
    • Report all sales and retention activities in the CRM system.
    • Develop and issue customs proposals to customers.
  • Finance:
    • Monitor and manage customs guarantees for various operations.
    • Follow up on refunds with customs authorities.
    • Review and manage the accounts receivable report.
    • Ensure every account has a credit limit and check for credit extension when needed.
    • Review and manage the department's profit and loss statement.
  • Compliance:
    • Ensure all employees are aware of and comply with company policies and regulations.
    • Proactively communicate with the team to ensure continuous awareness and understanding of policies and regulations.
    • Maintain a positive relationship with the Trade Compliance Manager and support all compliance efforts and trainings.
  • Culture:
    • Proactively promote the company's 10 cultural attributes: Appearance, Attitude, Confidence, Curiosity, Excellence, Integrity, Pride, Resolute, Sense of Humor, and Visionary.
  • Systems:
    • Develop and implement productivity tools to enhance customs operations.
    • Be open to implementing new system changes and enhancements with the team.
    • Audit files in accordance with AEO standards.
    • Manage the customs system and ensure it is up-to-date and accurate.
    • Send client report requests through the available database.
