European Technology Division
The European Technology Division of Rakuten operates as a pivotal hub within the Global Innovation Network, catering to the technology needs of our European members. We specialize in providing and enhancing global platforms tailored to meet specific business requirements within the Rakuten Ecosystem, extending our reach beyond Europe.
Our team consists of over 130 professionals from 7 different countries, working collaboratively across 12 offices in major cities. This multicultural environment is enriched by more than 20 nationalities, fostering regular collaboration with all segments of the Technology Division.
Role Description
At Rakuten, the integrity and security of our internet services are upheld by the Cyber Security Defense Department (CSDD). This department is responsible for overseeing all facets of the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and operational security for the services developed within the Rakuten Group.

Position Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough reviews of system requirements and designs for applications within the Rakuten ecosystem.
- Collaborate with developers, system and network administrators, and other stakeholders to ensure secure design and implementation of applications and networks.
- Develop and update security-related guidelines, technical standards, policies, and regulations for the Rakuten Group.
- Participate in security training and awareness initiatives to foster a culture of security consciousness and continuous education.
- Drive innovation and deliver quality solutions across platforms through meticulous planning, attention to detail, effective delegation, and accountability.
- Engage with internal clients to comprehend their cybersecurity needs and challenges.
- Assess client requirements to deliver customized security solutions.
- Create and present proposals tailored to the client's cybersecurity challenges.
- Provide expert consulting services and solutions to internal stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the information security domain.
- Solid understanding of core concepts related to networks, web/mobile applications, and associated security challenges.
- Basic knowledge of security architecture frameworks, threat modeling, and best practices in the software development lifecycle.
- Exceptional consultation, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills to foster trust and collaboration.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a consultant in a highly technical information security firm is advantageous.
- Advanced IT security certifications (e.g., CISA, CISSP) are preferred.
- Experience in overseeing vulnerability remediation, defining security requirements, and collaborating with infrastructure and development teams to create secure solutions.
- Familiarity with web/mobile application development and major web frameworks.
- Experience in web/mobile penetration testing and vulnerability assessments.
- Knowledge of major commercial cloud environments and container technologies.
- Experience with Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) and involvement in incident response projects.
- Background in incident response, including managing security incidents.
