Nutropy is at the forefront of developing innovative dairy alternatives. As a venture-backed French enterprise, we specialize in creating an animal-free, plug-and-play milk substitute for extensive dairy applications through our advanced precision fermentation technology. Our goal is to produce milk proteins and fatty acids that mirror those from cows, facilitating the creation of cheeses that not only taste exceptional but are also more sustainable, healthier, and kinder to animals.

Role Overview

We are in search of an experienced and adept leader who thrives on addressing complex and significant challenges within a dynamic and collaborative setting. You will oversee a diverse team by utilizing your technical expertise, skills in aligning and inspiring team members, and your ability to engage with stakeholders throughout the organization. Your responsibilities will include recruiting, retaining, developing, and guiding top-tier scientists. You will supervise the team's activities and ensure compliance with budgets and timelines.

In this role at Nutropy, your responsibilities will encompass:

Leadership and Management:

Oversee the management, development, and unity of our multidisciplinary scientific R&D team, ensuring effective communication and alignment with Nutropy's vision and objectives. Organize and coordinate R&D departments and initiatives to meet the goals established by the Executive Management. Ensure appropriate alignment between teams and the necessary technical and financial resources (both internal and external) for project execution in collaboration with Executive Management. Establish, assess, and monitor the operational progress of R&D projects with Executive Management, ensuring adherence to deadlines and budgetary constraints. Develop, evaluate, and track performance indicators (quality metrics) in conjunction with Executive Management. Serve as the liaison with various departments within the organization.

Technical Strategy Guidance:

Contribute to the implementation of the company's overarching scientific strategy. Stay updated on scientific literature and engage with relevant partners, continuously identifying and integrating cutting-edge technologies to foster cost-effective innovation. Maintain technological and competitive intelligence. Assist in translating ambitious objectives into actionable and attainable steps alongside Executive Management. Enable the organization to adapt its development or manufacturing processes continuously. Prepare and present findings, conclusions, and technical recommendations to the team and Executive Management.

Involvement in Company-Wide Development:

Engage in funding proposals. Promote and raise awareness about the company's initiatives with institutional partners, investors, and diverse audiences.

Desired Skills and Qualifications

Education & Experience:

PhD or Master's degree in biochemistry, microbiology, biotechnology, or related fields. A minimum of 10 years of experience leading research initiatives and managing scientific teams in a time-sensitive and milestone-driven environment, preferably in industry settings focused on recombinant protein expression using data-driven methodologies. Exceptional leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a strong focus on execution. Proven experience in managing and developing a robust intellectual property portfolio. Familiarity with strain engineering (including post-translational modifications), fermentation/bioprocessing, downstream processing (DSP) for recombinant proteins, high-throughput assay development, omics, bioinformatics, analytics, dairy/colloid science, and food science is highly advantageous. Proficiency in employing statistical and design-of-experiments approaches to enhance experimental design and facilitate robust data analysis. Experience in streamlining effective processes to enable team achievement of objectives. Expertise in identifying team skill gaps and recruiting top-tier technical talent from role design through to interview processes. Experience in fostering team development regarding both technical and interpersonal skills, as well as professional satisfaction and growth. Background in the food industry, particularly in ingredient or dairy sectors, with food-grade constraints is a plus. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, and ideally in French.

Interview Process

We will conduct 2 to 3 rounds of interviews with the CSO, CEO, and HR director, including reference checks and a site visit.
