**Position Description**:
The Development Engineer is a significant contributor to Corin’s next generation total knee and hip arthroplasty robotic systems, with the ongoing goal of developing design modifications to improve implants and instruments. This includes activities such as researching, planning, and designing mechanical and electromechanical products and systems.
The key responsibilities of the Development Engineer are to;
- Deliver excellent products on time, on budget and in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
- Preparation of product or system layout and detailed drawings and schematics.
- Finalize design, product testing and product specifications in accordance with procedures, and transfer appropriate responsibility to Process/Manufacturing Engineer.
- Generate prototypes to evaluate with customers and generate feedback.
- Interact with marketing, sales and customers to determine market needs.
- Work along other departments to brainstorm solutions for market needs.
- Participate in supplier qualification activities, sourcing and selection with the Regulatory and Quality Systems department in accordance with Company policies and procedures. Negotiate pricing, as needed.
- Completes Risk Analyses, DFMEA, concept generation, 3D modeling, drawing creation, tolerance analysis, etc.
- Plan and develop experimental test programs to test prototypes and final product.
- Analyse test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
- Confer with research and other engineering personnel and prepare design modifications as required.
- Evaluate and recommend design modifications to improve implants and instruments.
- Work within quality frameworks - 21 CFR 820 and ISO 13485.
- Other duties as assigned related to training and background.
The ideal Development Engineer will have / be
- A Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering Degree (or comparable) and at least 3+ years related experience and/or training.
- Worked within the Medical Device Industry, Orthopaedics or joint reconstruction industry
- Experience of the FDA, ISO regulated environments and GMPs - ASQ Certification would be advantageous
- CAD & computer skills ideally using SolidWorks design software.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with both technical issues and high level “open ended” matters.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Previous experience working within a cross-functional team environment.
- Strong problem-solving and prioritising skills
- Proven ability to work independently and under own initiative, but also able to work within a team meeting targets / deadline
- Worked to strict time constraints and meet deadlines in a timely manner
- The ability to follow specific and detailed instructions including SOPs and work instructions.
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access, Outlook)
- Flexibility to travel to meetings and training.
