In the bioproduction industry, the efficiency and specificity of antibody purification processes are significant challenges, directly affecting the economic viability and quality of biopharmaceutical products. Addressing these challenges is critical to meet the growing demands of modern medicine, particularly in the rapid development of innovative treatments like monoclonal antibodies (mAbs). The internship is part of a larger project called MemCapS in collaboration with industrial partners and conducted at the Institut Européen des Membranes in Montpellier. The main objective of this study is to revolutionize purification processes in terms of separation and capture of antibody in bioproduction by developing membranes functionalized with aptamers. This innovation promises to transform traditional methods, providing a more efficient, specific, and cost-effective approach to the separation and capture of monoclonal antibodies. The aim is to functionalize the membranes’ surface with selected aptamers and evaluate their performance in terms of filtration and adsorption. The internship will provide support for preliminary studies carried out by the team comprising two researchers.
**Main tasks during the internship**:
- Bibliographical study of membrane surface modification, and the principle of antibodies purification process.
- Surface modification of flat and/or hollow-fiber membranes.
- Characterize the modified membranes using different techniques such as scanning electron microscopy and FTIR spectroscopy.
- Study the functional properties of the obtained fibers through mechanical properties, filtration, adsorption, porometry and clogging.
- Write manipulation protocols and exploit results.
- Participate in team life and in the smooth running of the laboratory.
