About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Engineering Manager to join our team at Dailymotion. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for leading a team of development engineers and driving the technical vision of our core platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of development engineers through hiring, feedback, and hands-on career development, fostering a healthy and collaborative engineering culture focused on delivering business value.
  • Manage direct reports' workload and project assignments, participating in company-wide staffing ceremonies and supporting agile software development practices.
  • Partner closely with other engineering managers and product managers to grasp the context of requirements, shape solutions, and translate product requirements into actionable projects.
  • Support timely delivery of projects by reviewing, directing, and guiding the work of all engineers, either directly or through senior engineers.
  • Manage team productivity by driving the technical vision of the core platform that all our use-cases depend on.
  • Participate in roadmap definition and delivery and company strategic decisions.

Requirements

  • You must be a technical manager who can understand the technical details of a project, with at least one experience as a manager or a team lead, preferably for a development engineering team.
  • You can challenge and grow your team members, challenging technical designs and project milestones, encouraging experimentation, and upholding quality expectations.
  • You can build and present a strong vision/roadmap for your team.
  • You have had success as an engineer and are comfortable delivering projects even when requirements are under-specified, with a systems thinking approach that can see how the pieces fit together to make the puzzle.
  • You have the ability to work with multiple parts of the business (product, data) and multiple stakeholders (engineers, infrastructure, product managers, devops…).
  • Demonstrable passion for technology by continually making suggestions around how to make us better (better code, faster delivery, easier maintenance, etc.…).
  • Level of written/verbal English (documentation, team presentations, meetings).
  • Communication skills - able to work effectively with technical and non-technical teammates.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of Web development, Web architecture, HTTP, JSON/RPC, REST API.
  • Experience with collaborative software engineering techniques and methods: agile development, continuous delivery, code review/pairing, unit testing…
  • Knowledge in microservices architecture.
  • Experience with modern frontend development (React/Preact or similar frameworks).
  • Demonstrated interest in problem-solving and technical innovation.

Nice to Have

  • Good understanding of Node.js or Python or PHP.
  • Experience with JS SDK development.
  • Experience with SQL databases (MySQL).
  • Experience with continuous integration, continuous deployment testing and automation tools (Jenkins etc.) and Docker.
  • Interest in clean architecture, DDD, event driven architecture.
