Ubisoft is seeking a talented Character Technical Director to join our AAA game development team.

As the Character Technical Director, you will be responsible for ensuring the seamless integration and production of high-quality 3D character assets within our game engine.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical leadership for all character-related aspects of the project, encompassing budget management, production constraints, and performance optimization.
  • Develop, implement, and refine tools and workflows that streamline the character production pipeline, including shaders, hair systems, facial animation, and clothing simulation.
  • Act as a technical expert and point of contact for the character art team, resolving technical challenges and providing guidance on best practices.
  • Analyze pipeline requirements to ensure efficient and effective 3D asset creation for characters.
  • Collaborate with creative teams (Art & Design) to ensure adherence to established technical guidelines and constraints.
  • Adapt to evolving technical and artistic demands, optimizing production workflows for maximum efficiency.
  • Communicate technical limitations and rationale clearly to the modeling team and project leadership.
  • Provide training and support to the art team on new tools and methodologies.
Your Qualifications:
  • Proven experience as a Character Technical Artist in a real-time game development environment.
  • In-depth understanding of technical constraints associated with real-time 3D character production.
  • Familiarity with performance monitoring tools used in game engines (Unreal Engine, Unity, etc.).
  • Knowledge of rigging techniques, shaders, and their respective technical implications.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard 3D modeling software (3DS Max, Maya, Blender, etc.).
  • Strong problem-solving skills, autonomy, proactivity, and the ability to effectively communicate complex information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Scripting experience in Python or C#; familiarity with C++ is a plus.
  • Additional expertise in areas such as real-time clothing simulation, facial rigging, and hair systems is highly desirable.
