Job Description

Institut Mines-Télécom, a leading public group of engineering and management Grandes Écoles in France, is seeking a highly skilled postdoctoral researcher to join its team. The successful candidate will be part of the Centre Ingénierie et Santé (CIS) at Mines Saint-Étienne, a graduate school of the Institut Mines-Télécom.

The CIS is a multidisciplinary research unit that brings together experts in engineering, industrial/computing, biomechanics, and healthcare engineering. The team is focused on developing innovative solutions for soft tissue biomechanics, with a particular emphasis on vascular mechanobiology.

The postdoctoral researcher will work under the supervision of Prof. Stéphane Avril, who has received an ERC Advanced grant for the project JuvenTwin. The project aims to establish multiscale digital twins of ageing effects on vascular mechanobiology and to simulate and screen effective rejuvenation treatments.

The successful candidate will be responsible for mapping the mechanical stimuli around vascular smooth muscle cells in collagen hydrogels, including strain gradients, strains, and stresses, and correlating them to specific local phenotypic parameters. This will involve engraving micromarkers around cells in collagen hydrogels using a femtosecond laser and precisely following the position of these markers in confocal microscopy and in-line holography.

The postdoctoral researcher will also develop a machine learning model of the mechanical interactions between the cell and its environment, with major potential applications for the diagnosis of cancers or cardiovascular diseases.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD degree in biomechanics or a related field and experience in testing vascular cells and/or blood vessels. They will also have expertise in front-end and back-end development and be able to successfully integrate a team and a group within a R&D environment.
