Villeurbanne, France SuperGrid Institute Temps plein

SuperGrid Institute brings together 180 employees, of 28 different nationalities who work together within a dynamic environment in the city of Lyon. As an independent research and innovation centre, we are dedicated to developing technologies for the future power transmission system, the “supergrid”, including HVDC & MVDC technologies. **General Context** Advances in wide band technology have made the SiC MOSFET an attractive alternative to the silicon IGBT due to the possibility of using higher switching frequencies to design efficient and very compact power converters. Most of losses in electronic power converters are coming from semiconductors. The frequency increase adds difficulty in mastering switching in this type of converter. The rapid variations in voltage and current are the main culprits of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) troubles. By increasing the switching speed of the SiC MOSFET to achieve minimum switching losses, large variations of voltages (dv/dt) and currents (di/dt) generate electromagnetic noise through parasitic elements of the switching cell that can lead to the dysfunction or even the breakage of the power converter. **Position Context** Within the "Switching Cells" team of the “Power Electronics & Converters” program, our mission is to find original and reliable solutions that make it possible to get around these difficulties and to produce efficient and innovative demonstrators. **Objectives / Missions** He will ensure the coordination of the activities for which he is responsible with R&D engineers from the other sub-programs, the Power Electronics Innovation and System engineer and the Project manager. In this context, the main activities to be carried out are the following: **➔ Core type activities** - Design of technological bricks of power converters - Circuit simulation, calculation of losses and thermal design - Design of electronic control cards - Prototyping of the mechanical assembly including power modules, passive components, busbars and heatsinks. - Coordination with industrial partners for the realization of the converter - Preparation of the validation test program and carrying out the tests. - Writing technical reports **➔ Communication** - Ensure technical coordination with internal and external customers - Participate in conferences or communication events to present the results of R&D activities - Produce the necessary technical documentation for customers or partners **➔ Organize the activity in project mode** - Structure and plan the activities in accordance with the needs of the hierarchy - Facilitate technical work meetings related to the project - Contribute to project reporting (state of progress) **➔ Contribute to the valorization/IP of research and development results** - Be a force of proposal to promote external partnerships with the aim of valorization - Propose ideas to generate intellectual property - Power Electronics Engineering degree (Master 2) or PhD degree. - Five years minimum experience in the design of power converters._ _ **_Technical skills_** - Electronic boards: make diagrams, route and optimize the PCB layout - EMC: understand and interpret electromagnetic compatibility - Digital electronics: select, configure and program microcontrollers or FPGAs - Power converters: design power electronic circuits ,electrical, thermal, dielectric, mechanical - Softwares: eCadstar (routing software), CREO (CAD software) and PLECS / PSIM / LTSpice (circuit simulation) **_ Other skills_** - Strong analysis and synthesis skills - Team work - Autonomy - Proactivity - Problem solving - Presentation skills - Rigour - Curiosity and creativity - English/French speaking
