JOB DESCRIPTION

Wood is actively seeking a skilled Instrument & Control Engineer to be stationed at the EPC Contractor's office. This role is crucial for the detailed engineering phase of a significant project, expected to span approximately 18 months. The I&C Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that all deliverables align with safe, cost-effective, and competitive project standards, adhering to the EPC contract and relevant codes and regulations.

The Instrument & Control Engineer plays a vital role in managing the performance of the EPC Contractor and the associated vendors, delivering key components of the Instrument & Control scope. This encompasses engineering tasks focused on Greenfield design and validating the Contractor's design outputs in accordance with contractual obligations and verification plans.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide expert guidance and oversight of all Instrument and Control discipline activities conducted by the Contractor.
  • Ensure comprehensive solutions for control, safety, and fire & gas systems are designed and effectively integrated.
  • Collaborate with the Contractor during design phases and package bid evaluations to uphold project technical integrity.
  • Review Engineering Contractor scopes of work and assess man-hour estimates for specialized discipline tasks as necessary.
  • Utilize experience with HAZOP/LOPA risk assessment and quantification methodologies.
  • Demonstrate expertise in engineering safety instrumented systems in line with industry standards.
  • Guarantee that project functional specifications and scope of work requirements are met.
  • Plan proactively to ensure timely requests for part-time and shared client/IPMT specialist resources.
  • Resolve technical queries effectively.
  • Manage and mitigate technical risks.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of all pertinent codes, standards, and regulations related to project Instruments, control & safety systems, and metering disciplines.
  • Contribute to the engineering content of essential project detailed engineering documents produced by the Contractor.
  • Support and, in some instances, own the engineering content for discipline-specific Tier 3 decisions.
  • Oversee the application of selected engineering codes, standards, and practices for the project.
  • Review discipline-related deviations raised by the Contractor and provide recommendations to the client Lead I&C Engineer as needed.
  • Facilitate integration activities with the Main Automation Contractor (MAC).
  • Collaborate with the lead electrical engineer to support the interface between electrical switchgear systems.
  • Work alongside other core disciplines such as Process, Process Safety, and Mechanical to verify integrated designs, including control narratives, fire & gas layouts, and ESD hierarchy.
  • Assist the client PCC Engineering Manager with discipline-specific technical challenges in detailed engineering.
  • Report to the client Lead I&C Engineer's team.
QUALIFICATIONS

Essential Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Chartership or PE status is required.
Essential Experience and Job Requirements:
  • Significant experience in I&C-related roles.
  • Proven track record in contractor management and project delivery during the detailed engineering phase of major projects.
  • Experience with the integration of package vendor systems.
  • Deep expertise in the discipline with a strong history of multi-discipline integration.
  • Pragmatic decision-maker, capable of challenging norms to ensure engineering value is realized.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver projects effectively, showcasing strong technical management and leadership skills.
  • Comprehensive experience with control & safety systems, fire & gas systems, digital security, valves, and equipment package controls.
  • Ability to engage and collaborate with project personnel, stakeholders, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Recent experience working with and influencing EPC contractors.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with all levels of the project team, contractors, and project leadership.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and prioritization skills.
  • Commitment to safety and continuous improvement in HSSE performance.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal guidance.
  • Collaborative team player, open to giving and receiving constructive feedback.
Desirable Criteria and Qualifications:
  • Previous experience working on the client side of a major greenfield project delivery.
  • Experience on significant greenfield projects in an engineering capacity with large EPC Contractors.
  • Certification as a Functional Safety Engineer - TUV, Exida, etc.
