Role Context:

The Data Governance Specialist operates within the global Data Office for GEMS, directly reporting to the Chief Data Officer. This office is pivotal in overseeing data governance, ensuring data quality, and steering the overall data strategy for the organization under the guidance of the CDO.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Office Roadmap and Program Oversight:
  • Collaborate with the CDO to define and refine the Data Office roadmap, integrating data-centric strategies that encompass Data Science and AI initiatives.
  • Ensure the Data Office roadmap is consistently updated and aligned with organizational goals.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs to track the progress of the governance program.
  • Assist in prioritizing data subjects and contribute to the development of the Information Systems roadmap.
  • Support the organization and preparation of data committees.

  • Resource and Budget Management:
  • Oversee resource and budget allocation for the Data Office, making adjustments as necessary.
  • Report and escalate issues to the CDO when required.

  • Change Management and Cultural Integration:
  • Communicate and promote the governance framework to relevant stakeholders through established channels.
  • Collaborate with HR to develop skill enhancement plans for data personnel.
  • Facilitate the onboarding process for new data roles.

  • Use Case Identification and Governance Integration:
  • Identify strategic use cases that present opportunities for implementing the governance framework.
  • Ensure data roles are recognized and appointed in use cases, particularly where data challenges are evident.
  • Guarantee that Data Office policies are communicated and adhered to by designated data roles.
  • Monitor major issues and challenges, identifying opportunities for the evolution of the Data Governance framework.

Qualifications:

  • Essential:
  • Exceptional analytical skills paired with a practical approach.
  • Strong knowledge of information management tools and trading systems.
  • Desirable:
  • Familiarity with programming languages (e.g., Python).

Personal Attributes:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A strong desire to learn and a robust business acumen.
  • Highly organized and proactive.
  • Able to collaborate effectively with both business and IT teams.

  • Good understanding of the energy sector.

Education and Experience:

5-10 years of professional experience in a similar role or as a business analyst, ideally with prior involvement in data management initiatives.

Language Proficiency:

  • Fluency in French and English; Dutch is a plus.

Travel Requirements:

Some travel may be necessary to various locations where GEMS operates.
