Proposal Engineer in Water/Wastewater Treatment
Contract Type: Permanent
Role Description:
The Assets team within Veolia Water Technologies & Solutions is responsible for developing designs and proposals for both short- and long-term water treatment projects, focusing primarily on industrial water treatment, including pure and process water applications, utilizing a fleet of mobile and containerized water treatment facilities.
Our scope of work is extensive and varied, encompassing emergency deployments, routine applications, and complex projects that leverage multiple technologies such as Filtration, Ultrafiltration, Reverse Osmosis, Electrodeionization, and Ion Exchange. We also design and propose long-term agreements for Veolia-owned water treatment facilities based on mobile/containerized units.
Our European Service Centre is situated in Peterborough, UK, managing projects executed throughout Europe.
Main Responsibilities:
- Lead project opportunities from inquiry to order, ensuring ethical integrity and innovative thinking to develop safe and effective water treatment solutions for our clients.
- Support the Sales team with initial lead qualification and provide technical and commercial guidance, process design development (often in collaboration with global experts), cost model evaluation, and pricing with market awareness.
- Create customer-facing proposals and supporting documentation (including public tender deliverables), identify technical enhancements, and conduct system audits in close cooperation with country-based operational teams.
- A typical sequence of tasks may include:
- When necessary, audit existing assets: gather information and identify areas for improvement
- Develop all pertinent technical documents: Process Description, Process Flow Diagram, Process & Instrumentation Diagram, etc.
- When required, consult with subcontractors and assess their proposals
- Assist in sales during customer meetings (including travel to sites across Europe)
- Define the scope of supply and associated costs (installation, commissioning, service, consumables, chemicals, labor, third-party supply, freight, etc.)
- Identify and mitigate project-related risks with a strong emphasis on health and safety, as well as environmental protection
- Develop proposals with a focus on value proposition
- Create compelling documents and presentations in accordance with brand guidelines
- Present the complete package to Veolia Leadership for review and approval
- Additionally, team members will build a robust internal network of collaborators, demonstrate negotiation skills in customer meetings, comprehend contracts and commercial language, and adhere to internal compliance and delegation of authority procedures.
Essential Requirements:
- Master's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in water and/or wastewater operations (services), engineering, or bid management
- Prior experience in an industrial setting is preferred
- Fluency in English and French (both written and verbal) is mandatory
- Additional language skills are advantageous (especially Italian, German, Dutch)
- Willingness to travel occasionally within the EU and UK; a driving license is desirable
Relevant experience may include Application Engineering, Bid Management, Sales, or Business Development, with elements of:
- On-site services experience
- Knowledge of contract law and terms and conditions
- Familiarity with water outsourcing contracts
- Basic understanding of finance and accounting principles
- Previous technical experience with water/wastewater treatment services is beneficial
- Team player - this role is heavily reliant on collaboration and daily communication, requiring the ability to work within a matrix organization with colleagues in various countries
- Strong understanding of customer perspectives and the ability to tailor designs and proposals to meet their needs and priorities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential
- Ability to work independently and take initiative is required
- Commitment to quality and high standards in published work is highly valued
- Ability to prioritize tasks and adhere to deadlines is essential
Contract Type: Permanent
Compensation: Based on profile, paid in 13.5 monthly installments
Annual Bonus: Based on targets, profit-sharing
