About the Position

This PhD position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research within the field of beyond 5G networks (B5G). You will be part of a collaborative project between two Inria teams, COATI and DIANA, supported by the French National Research Agency (ANR) PEPR 5G program.

Research Focus

The increasing demand for bandwidth-intensive applications like gaming, virtual reality, and video streaming in B5G networks necessitates a paradigm shift towards energy-efficient network management. This research aims to establish a direct link between resource utilization within the network and the perceived Quality of Experience (QoE) by end users.

Your Role

As a PhD researcher, you will:

  • Explore existing literature on modeling QoE for popular applications like gaming, virtual reality, web browsing, and video streaming.
  • Design and implement an experimental framework to evaluate energy consumption and QoE across various network configurations and application loads.
  • Develop machine learning models to correlate resource utilization with network traffic patterns and user experience.
  • Propose optimized network configurations that minimize energy consumption while maintaining a high level of QoE for users.

Collaboration and Impact

This research will contribute to the development of sustainable and efficient B5G networks, enhancing user experience and reducing environmental impact. You will collaborate with leading researchers in the field and have the opportunity to present your findings at international conferences.

Qualifications

A strong background in computer science, telecommunications engineering, or a related field is essential. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and experience with network simulation tools are highly desirable.
