Position Overview

INRIA is at the forefront of research in applied mathematics and computational science, collaborating with the Jean-Alexandre Dieudonné Mathematics Laboratory at Université Côte d'Azur. Our team is composed of experts dedicated to innovating numerical methodologies for partial differential equations (PDEs) that model interactions at the nanoscale between light and matter. A key focus of our research is the development of the DIOGENeS software suite, which incorporates advanced Discontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods tailored for time- and frequency-domain Maxwell equations, along with differential equations that describe the behavior of optical media.

Research Objectives

Metasurfaces are innovative planar structures capable of manipulating light in ways that surpass traditional optical components. These surfaces have sparked significant interest, leading to the creation of advanced devices such as achromatic metalenses and color holograms. Recent studies have also highlighted their potential applications in quantum technology, where the focus shifts from wave-like behavior to the manipulation of individual photons for quantum information processing.

Classical electromagnetic simulations, grounded in traditional physics, often fail to accurately depict the interactions of single photons with metasurfaces due to their reliance on continuous energy distributions. This postdoctoral project aims to develop sophisticated modeling tools to analyze these interactions more effectively. The first goal will be to refine and enhance the high-order DGTD method for single-photon interactions. The second objective involves applying these numerical tools to design configurations for quantum information processing metasurfaces, ensuring a collaborative approach with our physics partners for theoretical modeling and interpretation of simulation results.

Required Qualifications

Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in Applied Physics, Applied Mathematics, Scientific Computing, or Electrical Engineering. Essential skills include:

  • Expertise in computational electromagnetics and finite element methods for PDEs.
  • Strong understanding of quantum optics, nanophotonics, and metasurfaces.
  • Proficiency in software development, particularly in Python and Fortran 2003, along with parallel programming using MPI and OpenMP.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills, demonstrating motivation and commitment.

Benefits

  • Subsidized meals and partial reimbursement for public transport.
  • Generous leave policy, including 7 weeks of annual leave and additional days off.
  • Flexibility in work hours and the possibility of teleworking after a designated period.
  • Access to professional development opportunities and social events.
  • Comprehensive social security coverage.

Compensation

The gross salary for this position is €2746 per month.
