Role Overview: Performance Manager and CPPA Specialist

Location: Paris / Brussels / Europe

Position: Head of Operations for Renewables Global Business Unit (R-GBU) Europe

The Renewables Global Business Unit (R-GBU) is dedicated to advancing the development of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) assets, with a focus on achieving an EBIT of approximately €1.1Bn. Our diverse team comprises 4,000 professionals from over 50 nationalities, operating across 20 countries. With an installed capacity of 32 GW distributed across 4 Operational Areas, R-GBU oversees a varied portfolio that includes Solar (3.5 GW), Wind (10.9 GW), and Hydro (17.7 GW) assets. Our strategic goal is to increase our installed capacity to 80 GW by 2030.

Key Responsibilities:

The Performance Manager and CPPA Specialist will undertake the following duties:

  • Facilitate PPA Development: Oversee the PPA pipeline within our portfolio, ensuring tracking of activities and progress.
  • Assist countries in formulating comprehensive business cases.
  • Review all PPAs, participate in governance updates, and maintain our PPA Golden Rules while disseminating them across Europe.
  • Prepare documentation for EU and RGBU Commitment Committees / Excom to secure transaction approvals.
  • Provide extensive support for transaction evaluation and execution, focusing on risk and reward assessments.
  • Establish relationships with intermediaries/advisers and internal teams (especially GEMS, countries, RGBU HQ).
  • Develop internal models to analyze and challenge PPA pricing offers.
  • Identify business synergies and risks, participating in risk assessments.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Energy Management Europe to monitor PPA activities and identify commercial opportunities.
  • Lead the community of PPA managers in Europe, sharing best practices and organizing knowledge-sharing events.
  • Support deal processes and negotiation preparations, including strategy formulation and documentation drafting.
  • Battery Development Support: Collaborate with the Business Development team and other ENGIE entities to evaluate and develop battery opportunities across Europe.
  • Proactively engage in transversal subjects related to battery development and expertise enhancement.
  • Build internal models to assess revenue streams for all markets.
  • Establish baseline modeling approaches for business model discussions at the country level.
  • Performance Monitoring: Work closely with the wind performance officer to monitor the performance of the EU RES portfolio.
  • Oversee the EU portfolio of maintenance contracts in collaboration with the RGBU O&M Service Performance Manager.
  • Follow up on country maintenance strategies and LTSA renegotiation activities.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
  • Coordination: Collaborate with operational entities to promote best practices and share expertise.
  • Benchmarking and Strategic Studies: Lead multidisciplinary teams to conduct internal and external benchmarking studies to enhance fleet performance.
  • Communication: Prepare and coordinate documents for submission to management, ensuring confidentiality.

The incumbent will report directly to the VP of Europe Operations and will not have management responsibilities.

Team and Work Environment:

The RENEWABLE OPERATIONS EUROPE team is tasked with:

  • Setting and Monitoring HSE Objectives: Ensure compliance with HSE guidelines across GBU entities.
  • Defining Operational KPIs: Establish ambitious KPIs for operational assets.
  • Performance Monitoring: Support operational entities in identifying underperformance and optimizing O&M supplier performance.
  • Asset Management Guidelines: Design and implement asset management protocols.
  • Corporate PPA Development: Collaborate with GEM on corporate PPA initiatives.
  • Commercial Performance Monitoring: Manage GBU exposure to various risks.
  • New Business Models: Develop innovative offerings such as Corporate PPAs and financial optimization strategies.
  • Technical Expertise: Provide support for site selection, resource assessment, and technology design.
  • R&D Steering: Anticipate new technology rollouts and guide R&D efforts.
  • Data Collection and Analytics: Ensure comprehensive data collection for all assets and provide analytics to operational regions.

The Operations Europe entity collaborates closely with RGBU Operational Support and various European countries.

Interactions:

Internal Interfaces: Engage with various groups at the corporate and operational levels.

External Interfaces: Collaborate with partners, lenders, and consultants.

  • Expertise in identifying and pursuing business opportunities with strong negotiation skills in Corporate PPAs.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the European energy market and its regulatory landscape.
  • Ability to work autonomously and take initiative.
  • Strong collaboration skills and a team-oriented mindset.
  • Ambitious and capable of opening new avenues for growth.

Language Proficiency: Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of additional languages such as French, German, Spanish, or Italian is advantageous.
