The UK Delegation to the OECD (UKDel) represents the UK at a key multilateral organisation of ever-increasing importance to the UK. The Delegation Policy Support Officer role is central to the smooth running of the office and involves working across all policy teams, as well as with the Ambassador and Deputy Ambassador. It provides an opportunity to work across a wide range of subject areas and stakeholders across Whitehall, as well as within the France Network and at the OECD. The UK Delegation is a small and friendly team, who are ready to help and support.

This is a part time 4 day a week position leading on policy and team support for the Delegation. This is a fast-paced and varied role for a diligent self-starter with strong administrative and team-working skills. This job will give the successful candidate an opportunity to gain experience in working with the UK government and with a multilateral organisation. Your work will include e.g. leading on preparations for OECD Council and Executive Committee meetings, supporting business continuity activities, comms and event planning. You will work closely with the Delegation’s wider support team including the Executive Assistant to the Ambassador, providing cover when necessary. The job holder will be encouraged to develop an understanding of policy work and will have opportunities to become involved in various activities with the policy teams, such as conducting research, monitoring, note-taking and summarizing information etc.

This is a part-time (28hrs per week) and permanent position. This role is delivered on a 4-day working week, with either Tuesday or Thursday as non-working day (depending on business needs). This role does offer occasional working from home, maximum one day a week.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Policy support

Supporting the OECD Governance Lead and the Deputy Permanent Representative on Executive Committee and Council preparations; There may be opportunities to support Team Leaders in specific policy areas including note-taking and ad hoc research.

Team support

Overseeing induction procedures for all staff, and in particular managing protocol requirements for incoming and outbound UK based officers, supporting recruitment procedures for Country Based staff, building and maintaining strong relationships with OECD and British Embassy Paris; Managing communications flow in the team and business continuity. Maintaining and updating Delegation operational documents and information management including e.g. leading on the Delegation's monthly forward look, monitoring and managing the UKDel admin mailbox, including actioning high priority messages; Supporting cross-Delegation corporate projects, forward planning and coordinating All Delegation Meetings; Working closely with wider UKDel support team and providing cover for and diary support to the Executive Assistant to the HMA, as necessary; Leading on event planning and entertainment, assisting in the organisation of promotional events at the OECD.

Communications

Supporting the Delegation Comms lead, drafting lines, preparing social media posts as necessary. Essential qualifications, skills and experience 1 Excellent level of English is essential (both oral and written) C1 Level or equivalent*; Excellent written and oral communication skills, good judgement with an ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders and to convey messages in a professional way; Ability to work as a part of a team build collaborative relationships and deal effectively with people in external organisations; Organisational skills with an ability to deliver quickly, and show flexibility in the face of changing priorities or demands; Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering work to a high standard; Resourcefulness, ability to act on own initiative and find creative solutions and knowing when to ask for support/guidance; A working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, incl. Outlook, Word and Excel and ability to learn new IT skills, as required; Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment with respect for diversity; Strong corporate player keen to play a part in building a diverse and inclusive team culture. This is a part-time permanent position of 28 hours per week. 

All appointments are subject to professional background check satisfactory security clearance. The successful applicant will be required to provide a copy of his/her passport or national identity card for all nationalities held, an up-to-date criminal record (casier judiciaire) for recent countries of residence (which can be obtained online at ), two written proofs of address (utility invoices and/or bank statements) and two references.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in France are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local French employment law and FCDO guidance for Country Based Staff. The posts we offer are not an entry point into the UK’s Diplomatic Service.
